The New North-West (Deer Lodge, Mont.) October 06, 1882: “There was a riot at Cooke City, near Bozeman, last Friday that the local authorities could not suppress, and a call was made on Fort Ellis for troops. Town lots and a woman caused the trouble.”
The Independent Record (Helena) also reported October 10, 1882: “The recent riot at Cooke City didn’t amount to much, after all. The only damage done was one man getting his little finger shot off.”
