Historical Note - Week of February 1st

The Choteau Acantha, February 4th, 1932

New Town Born in Park County

Red Lodge.- This section of Montana is to have a new town.

Three Bozeman men, John L. Taylor, J.J. White and E.F. Bunker, plan to lay out a townsite between the old mining town of Cooke City and the boundary of Yellowstone national park.

The town will be on the route of the Red Lodge-Cooke highway approach to the park. The site lies directly in the path of the new road being built over the Beartooth mountains.

Buildings will be restricted to conform with the log cabin architecture that characterizes the Yellowstone camps. The sponsors hope to establish a permanent town rather than a summer tourist camp.
